Sundargarh: After spending 20 years in a jail in Pakistan, a man from Sundargarh district is all set to return to his native village of Kantanga Nangatoli.
According to the man’s family, Biju Kulu, who was mentally challenged since his childhood, had left home at the age of 24.
After a frantic search for two years, the family came to know that he was working in a hotel in Raipur in Chhattisgarh. But by the time they reached Raipur, they could not find him.
Meanwhile, his parents passed away, waiting in vain for their son to return.
After 19 years, however, Kutra Police got information about the whereabouts of Kulu last year and informed his family members.
According to police, Kulu was arrested by the Pakistan army after he mistakenly trespassed into the neighbouring country’s territory.
After spending 20 years in jail, the Pakistan government released Kulu on October 26 and handed him over to the Indian Army at Wagah border.
As he had contracted COVID-19 in jail, Kulu is now undergoing treatment in a COVID hospital in Amritsar.
Arrangements have been made by the Resident Commissioner of Odisha to bring him back to his native village after his recovery.
