Kendrapada: A 32-year-old man, who allegedly chopped off his friend’s genitals after a drunken brawl two days ago at Pentha beach in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, was arrested on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Akshya Rout of Bankeswar village, was arrested by a police team in Aul area of the district after a hunt was launched to nab him for the incident that took place on Sunday, sources said.
The incident took place when Bhagabat Das (30) of Damarpur Balipatana and Akshya had gone to the beach in Rajnagar area and a fight broke out between them.
As the situation escalated, Akshya pulled out a sharp weapon and allegedly chopped off Das’s genitals and fled the site.
Das was rescued by locals and taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rajnagar. He was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
The accused was arrested on the basis of information gathered during interrogation of several people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, whom the two had hired for the trip to the beach.
A case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered at Rajnagar police station and further investigation is underway.
