Sundargarh: Fifty-one-year-old Birju Kulu from Odisha’s Sundargarh district returned to his native place after spending 20 years in a Pakistan jail. Barely a few months after he came back home, he went missing again on Saturday night.
Birju’s sister has registered a complaint with the Kutra police and claimed that Birju went missing from his house on Saturday night. Cops have launched a search operation to trace him.
A resident of Katang village under Kutra block of Sundargarh district, Birju was sentenced to 20 years by a Pakistani court on charges of spying. He had left home when at the age of 25 and had crossed the Pakistan border by mistake. He was caught by Pakistan Army suspecting him to be an Indian spy.
Birju was released from the Lahore jail on October 26, 2020, and was subsequently handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border.
