Odisha: Maoist Camp Busted After Heavy Firing In Malkangiri Forest

Malkangiri: Security personnel seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition after a fierce gun battle in a forest in the cut-off area of Malkangiri district, SP (Malkangiri) Rishikesh Khilari said on Sunday morning.

The SP said they received a tip-off on Saturday night about the presence of over 100 Maoists of Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) in the forest near Pipalpadar village in Chitrakonda block.

He led a joint combing operation comprising personnel from the Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF).

During the search operation, the Maoists fired on the security personnel in the wee hours of Sunday. The security personnel retaliated immediately. After an hour-long exchange of fire, the Maoists managed to flee the area.

Later, the security personnel busted a camp and seized huge cash of arms and ammunition and several Maoist articles.

The SP stated that there was no casualty among the security personnel. The search operation in the forest has been intensified with additional forces, he added.
