Odisha May Experience Brief Lull In Rain Before Another Cyclonic Circulation Mid-Month

Bhubaneswar: Having witnessed above-average rainfall so far this October, Odisha is likely to experience a decrease in the intensity of downpours from Tuesday (October 11), the Regional Meteorological Centre informed on Monday.

The state has so far received 79.4 mm of rainfall which is 65% more than normal, it said.

The MeT office has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorm at some districts during the next 24 hours. Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been sounded for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.

“South Odisha is likely to experience incessant rain,” it added.

However, this could be a brief lull before another heavy spell with the IMD having predicted the formation of a fresh cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal in the second half of this month (October 14 to October 20). There is a likelihood of formation of a cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during week 2 with a low probability of its further intensification and westnorthwestwards movement, according to the North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.
