Odisha May Experience Heavy Rain Till August 25; Check IMD Forecast

Bhubaneswar: Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm and lightning with isolated heavy rainfall activity is likely over Odisha till August 25, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

According to the midday bulletin, heavy rain may lash one or two places in Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Malkangiri and Koraput till 8.30 am on Thursday. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been sounded for some places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places across the state.

On August 24, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Angul, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places in North Odisha and at many places in southern districts of the state.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Mayurbhanj during the subsequent 24 hours (August 25). Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places across the state.

The intensity of rain may decrease thereafter with no more heavy rain warning for the state.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at many places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and at a few places in the rest of the state on August 26. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at a few places across Odisha, the following day.

Notably, Odisha has recorded 750 mm rainfall against the normal of 831.8 mm till August 23 this monsoon season. While one districts has received excess rain while 11 are deficient and the remaining 18 in the normal category.
