Bhubaneswar: In the wake of heavy rain forecast by IMD, Mayurbhanj district administration in Odisha has announced that all schools would remain closed on Saturday.
The district education officer (DEO) said the district collector has directed to keep all schools including private ones closed on September 14 due to rain forecast.
“As instructed by Collector, Mayurbhanj, all types of schools including private will be closed on September 14 in the district due to forecast of heavy rain and alert warning,” the message read.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its forecast, had issued a red alert for Mayurbhanj. It stated that isolated heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
The weather forecaster said the well-marked Low Pressure over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bangladesh is expected to intensify into a Depression by Saturday.
