Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Odisha has set all-time record in production and despatch of coal in financial year 2022-23.
Addressing the annual general meeting of the MCL in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, its Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Om Prakash Singh said the company registered a record 193.3 million ton (MT) of coal production and posted the highest ever 192.7 MT coal despatch to consumers during 2022-23 financial year.
“The MCL registered a growth of 15% in coal production and 9% rise in coal despatch in FY 2023-23 over the FY 2021-22,” Singh said.
Stating that 97% of total production was through eco-friendly equipment surface miners, he said, “The MCL achieved all its targets ahead of schedule and helped Coal India surpass its target of 700 MT set for the financial year.”
The coal despatch to power sector also increased from 127.12 MT in FY 2022 to 148.8 MT in FY 2023 with a growth of 17%. Strengthening its business activities, the company made Capital Expenditure (CapEx) of Rs 3,850 crore during the FY 2022-23.
The company spent around Rs 200 crore under various CSR initiatives for social and economic upliftment of society, particularly the remote and peripheral areas of the coalfields by March 31, 2023, Singh said.
