Cuttack: Markatnagar police here have arrested a television channel owner for allegedly duping an ex-defence personnel of Rs 20 lakh.
The accused, identified as Managing Director (MD) of Kamyab TV Manoj Das, has been booked under Sections 420 and 34 of IPC.
According to sources, Bisweswar Rout, a retired army personnel residing at CDA area in Cuttack, had accused the media house owner of defrauding him of Rs 20 lakh with the promise to provide him a job in his television channel. He had taken the amount in February last year.
Rout lodged a complaint against Das and his associate Ashok Patnaik, the intermediary, when he did not receive any appointment letter from the organisation.
The police investigation further revealed that Das had duped two others of Rs 40 lakh.
Efforts are on to nab Patnaik, who is absconding, the sources added.
In 2014, the CBI had arrested Das for his alleged complicity in Artha Tatwa (AT) Group chit fund scam and he was lodged in Jharpada Jail here for two years. The TV channel was closed briefly following his arrest and he was planning to revive it after being granted bail in this case.
