Odisha Migrant Workers Stranded In Andaman & Nicobar Islands Being Flown Back Home On Special Flight

Bhubaneswar: A special Air Asia flight is bringing back home 180 Odisha people, who were stranded in Andaman & Nicobar Islands due to COVID-19 lockdown, a release stated.

All the stranded people boarded the flight at Port Blair in the morning. It is scheduled to land at 12.50 pm at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar.

The state government had arranged for these workers to be picked up from different islands in Andaman and made them complete the formalities required under COVID-19 protocols.

For those stranded in remote parts from where railway services are not available and also travelling on road is not possible, the government has decided to bring them by air service. As per the decision, more than 600 persons have already been evacuated by air from states like Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The mission will continue till all the migrant workers return to the state safely, the release stated.
