Bhubaneswar: Odisha Millets Mission (OMM) has been conferred with the prestigious “Global Model for Millet Promotion” award at the International Nutri-Cereals Convention 5.0 (INCC) held in Hyderabad.
Receiving the award, Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Arabinda Kumar Padhee, expressed his gratitude to chief minister Naveen Patnaik for his vision and commitment which made this mission a success.
He dedicated the award, received on Tuesday, to real heroes of Odisha Millets Mission — farmers, women self-help groups, custodian seed savers, FPOs, NGOs, his colleagues and officers in the department, sources said.
Emphasising the participatory approach of OMM, Padhee said it paved the way for its successful implementation and recognised as replicable and scalable model for revival of millets.
He also co-chaired a session on a way forward for mainstreaming millets through State Millet Missions for food and nutritional security.
The Indian Institute of Millets Research anchored the INCC, which brought together administrative heads, sector experts, thought leaders, researchers, key beneficiaries and other stakeholders on a single platform from November 27 and 28 at Hyderabad.
The theme of the convention is Mainstreaming Millets Now & Beyond 2023 which shows the importance of these ancient grains in today’s time.
