Bhubaneswar: In order to place itself in global stage, the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has started implementation of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).
Deoranjan Kumar Singh, OMC Chairman and Additional Chief Secretary, Steel & Mines department, inaugurated the EFQM implementation in OMC in an official ceremony in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Balwant Singh, Managing Director, OMC, functional directors, employees of the Corporation along with senior officers of the implementation partner Grant Thornton were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman said, “As an organisation, OMC has achieved many feats since its inception, becoming one of the largest mining companies in India, increasing its revenue manifold. Now it’s the time for strengthening the systems and striving for excellence.”
Balwant Singh said the OMC with more than 30 million ton ore production in the last year and 15,000 workforce is undergoing a transformational journey. “For this transformation, OMC wanted to adopt a global business excellence framework for which we have embarked to adopt the EFQM implementation in OMC,” he added.
Alok Kumar Pal, Director (HR), in his welcome address, spoke on the benefits of the EFQM model implementation in OMC and its role in bringing about a sustainable value creation in business operations, people engagement and managing change.
In the three years of EFQM journey, the Corporation will adopt the international best practices for sustaining its high growth trajectory and establishing excellence in areas of operations, business strategies, leadership & culture, employee & community engagement, environment & sustainability, innovation and adaptability, customer value creation, technology-driven performance leading to its transformation.
