Bhubaneswar: The hostels of Utkal University will continue as usual and no decision on closure has been taken as yet. Such a decision will be taken keeping in view the COVID-19 situation in the state, said Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo.
The Minister’s statement came after hundreds of Utkal University students blocked the National Highway today morning protesting Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) decision to shut hostels due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The protesters, including girls, sat on the National Highway and shouted slogans. They urged the civic body to revoke the decision.
The commuters had a harrowing time in reaching their destinations as vehicular communication was disrupted from Rasulgarh to Acharya Vihar and Rupali Square to Vani Vihar Chhak.
