Bhubaneswar: Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera on Sunday inaugurated a web-based portal e-Checkpost and a mobile app for the citizens to enable them to report traffic violations.
Speaking at a function on the concluding day of the 31st National Road Safety Week here, he said that e-Checkpost is a web-based portal where vehicle owners of other states can pay the border tax before entry into Odisha. After the abolition of border check posts by the state government, vehicle owners come to the nearest RTO to pay the border tax and get a permit to enter the state.
“The owner of other state vehicles can log in to https://parivahan.qov.in and deposit the taxes online. The permit is issued instantly and the vehicle owner can download and print it at his convenience. This system will save them the trouble of physically coming to the transport office,” Behera added.
The e-Checkpost system has been introduced under the 5Ts initiative of the Odisha government.
The minister also launched a mobile app ‘GCTP Citizen Services’ through which people they can click photographs or take videos of a traffic offence. The video will automatically reach the officers with details such as date and time of the video taken. They can identify the exact spot using GPS. Besides, the citizens can also raise traffic-related grievances and give suggestions through the app and it would be forwarded to the officers concerned. They also check if any action taken on the app.
The minister also informed that the state government will introduce a traffic system between Rameswar near Tangi in Khurda district and Chandikhol in Jajpur district on National Highway-5 to provide innovative services related to different modes of transport and traffic management and enable users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated and ‘smarter’ use of transport networks.
