Bhubaneswar: Reiterating his demand for a CBI probe into Naba Das’ alleged killing, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra on Tuesday said that the minister had died on the spot after being shot by the policeman.
He further questioned if Jharsuguda hospital had issued any certificate to refer him to another hospital. “A drama was enacted for a day after his death. We are not interested in such grandma tales. It was a pre-planned murder and part of a bigger conspiracy which needs to be exposed,” he said.
Jayanarayan attributed the murder to both political and business rivalry.
If a minister is not safe in the state, how can the government guarantee the safety of its people? he asked, pointing a finger at the intelligence wing under Chief Minister, who holds the home portfolio.
Speaking about the alleged mental condition of the accused cop, the LoP said that how was he given a promotion, medals and a revolver if that was the case. “The police department must clarify how many mentally unstable officers are there. Why is the DG silent over the issue?” he asked.
“The police would conduct the probe against its own man even if it is court-monitored. Therefore for an impartial investigation, the government should hand over the case to CBI,” he added.
