Jharsuguda: Dismissed policeman Gopal Das was produced in Jharsuguda JMFC court here on Thursday in connection with the murder of former Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das.

He is the prime accused in the case.

According to sources, a team of Crime Branch brought Gopal Das from OSAP Battalion to JMFC court at District Court Complex in Jharsuguda amid tight security this morning. He is lodged in Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack.

Das was produced in the court for commitment of the case for trial to District & Sessions Judge Court, Jharsuguda, which is a standard procedure. Charges against him will now be framed in the sessions court for start of trial, the sources added.

Naba Das was gunned down in the western Odisha town of Brajarajnagar on January 29. The Crime Branch had submitted the 543-page preliminary chargesheet in Jharsuguda JMFC Court on May 26, stating that Gopal Das acted alone in planning and executing the murder of the 61-year-old minister. He was in a stable and normal mental condition at the time of the crime.
