Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has warned of strict action for violation of restrictions under excise law during New Year celebrations.
Speaking at a presser in Bhubaneswar on Friday, Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said his department has geared up to take action against illegal sale of liquor and hooliganism during New Year-eve celebration across the state.
Warning the bars, pubs, liquor outlets and clubs, the minister said any place found flouting the rules would face strict action.
“There have been numerous instances of drunken driving after attending the ‘zero hour’ party. It not only puts their lives at risk but also poses threat to others on the road. Such behaviour will not be tolerated. The department officials have geared up to take step in this regard,” he said.
Harichandan further said the facilities selling or serving alcohol have to close down at the right time in the night. Illegal and behind the counter sale during the prohibited hour would also invite severe penalties, he added.
