Cuttack: Odisha Police arrested a 35-year-old man on charges of forcing a youth to kneel over down near Pratap Nagari locality in Cuttack on Saturday.
The arrested was identified as Amarendra Pratap Swain, nephew of Agriculture Minister ARD Ranendra Pratap Swain.
According to sources, the arrest was made by Sadar Police after a video pertaining to the incident went viral. It showed a group of 10 persons assaulting a youth and forcing him to kneel down following an argument about overtaking their vehicle.
A local, identified as Nirmal Swain, tried to intervene, but he too was assaulted by the group following which he filed a complaint on basis of which police lodged a case and verified CCTV footage.
“The accused is among 10 others involved in the incident. Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the youth who was tortured and forced to kneel down. Other accused will also be nabbed,” Sadar IIC Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra told the media.
