Bhubaneswar: Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera’s son Manabhanjan Behera has demanded stern action against a youth for attempting to tarnish his father’s image.
On being caught by police at Fire Station Square in the city on weekend shutdown in an inebriated state on Sunday, the youth had misbehaved with the cops by claiming that he was the son of the minister.
Sharing the picture of the accused, identified as Jiban Jyoti Mallick, a resident of Nayapalli, Manabhanjan said that he is now languishing in Jharpada jail.
In a Facebook post, he further alleged that a journalist tried to denigrate his father by highlighting such nuances. He also questioned the cops for not verifying his claim, which he said was incoherent. “He introduced him as the son of the minister at one time and then said that he was the nephew of Nirmal Sathpathy, a police officer,” he wrote.
Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das told the media that the youth was impersonating as a relative of many persons in top positions of the government. “The COVID restrictions will be enforced strictly and all the vehicles passing through the checking points in the city will be stopped,” he added.
