Cuttack: Suspended BJD leader and former panchayat samiti chairman Sarat Nayak and physical education teacher (PET) Anupam Ray were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of a school girl of Mahanga in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Nayak had come under police scanner after an audio clip purportedly involving him had gone. He was recently suspended from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) following the controversy over the death of the Class X girl under mysterious circumstances.
It may be noted here that the girl student was found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 16. It was alleged that the body was disposed in haste of without conducting a postmortem.
The mystery shrouding her death deepened as the audio of a telephonic conversation between Nayak and the mother of the PET of the school went viral on social media.
In the audio clip, Nayak was heard demanding Rs 70, 000 from the woman to hush up the matter.
The girl was allegedly in a relationship with the PET. She allegedly died by suicide after her family members came to know about the affair, locals had alleged.
Nayak was further heard saying to the teacher’s mother that the girl’s body was cremated and later immersed in a river to put a lid on the matter.
A police team had earlier visited the house of the PET and questioned him and his mother.
