Odisha: Missing 10-Yr-Old Girl Found Dead, Body Wrapped In Plastic; Aunt Detained

Berhampur: A 10-year-old Class IV student was found dead under suspicious circumstances late last night, hours after she went missing at Chamunda village under Jagannathprasad police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

According to sources, the deceased girl, a resident of Kanakuturu village in Buguda block, had been living at her maternal uncle’s house to pursue her education. She went missing around 11 am on Wednesday. A formal complaint was

lodged at the local police station when family members failed to locate her after frantic searches. Her body was later found that night in a toilet situated roughly 20 metres from her uncle’s residence. It was wrapped in a plastic sheet.

Sources further stated that there were prominent marks on her neck, suggesting she might have been strangled with a rope.

On being informed, senior police officials, including Jagannathprasad IIC Pramod Lenka, Belaguntha IIC Rebati Sabara, and Bhanjanagar SDPO Deepak Kumar Mishra, reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. A thorough investigation is underway to unravel the sequence of events leading to the girl’s disappearance and death.

The minor’s aunt has been detained for questioning after family members alleged that she was not happy with the arrangement and often fought with her husband.
