Berhampur: A PG first-year student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur was found dead under mysterious circumstances at senior residents hostel on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Subhani Patnaik, who was pursing PG in Dermatology, Venereology, Leprosy Department of the medical college.
According to sources, Subhani was rescued from her hostel room in critical condition and admitted to the hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment. Police recovered the body from the casualty after being informed at around 12.40 pm and sent it for postmortem.
“The student was unresponsive and rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. There has been no allegation from the family members or suspicion of foul play till now. A case of unnatural death has been registered and investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
Sources further said that she had reportedly taken medicines for migraine and could have died of drug overdose.
Subhani’s father and other relatives have reached MKCG on being informed about her death.
