Jajpur: Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo was allegedly attacked by some miscreants in Budhapola area of Odisha’s Jajpur district on Wednesday.
The legislator alleged that the attack was made by supporters of BJD organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das.
As per information, Sahoo was proceeding to attend a meeting along with an associate when some people were seen staging a road blockade near Budhapola area by burning tyres.
When the MLA came out of his vehicle to enquire about the incident, some miscreants, who claimed themselves to be the supporters of Pranab Prakash Das, allegedly attacked him with iron rods and sticks. It was alleged that they attacked him and snatched his gold chain, besides damaging his vehicle.
The legislator has demanded immediate steps to arrest those involved in the incident.
Tension prevailed in the area following the incident as some BJP supporters rushed to the spot and entered into an altercation with the BJD supporters. Sources said around five persons sustained injuries in the scuffle that ensued.
A team from Jajpur Town Police Station rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation.
No reaction was immediately available from Pranab Prakash Das and BJD over the allegation.
