Cuttack: Alleging massive financial irregularities in organising the just-concluded Bali Jatra in Cuttack, Odisha MLA Mohammed Moquim on Sunday demanded a thorough probe into the issue and the role of the civic body.
The Barabati-Cuttack MLA told reporters that even the corporators of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have raised the issue of corruption and claimed that massive financial irregularities tool place in organising the bali jatra this year.
Stating that the historic bali jatra was organised with the tax money raised by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Moquim claimed that an amount of Rs 32 lakh was made in the tender awarded for erecting two welcome gates at the festival ground.
However, while enquiring with the agency which prepared the gates, it was found that only Rs six lakh was paid to it for the job, the legislator claimed.
This apart, there have been massive irregularities in laser show and busting green crackers during the annual fair.
Demanding thorough probe into the alleged irregularities, Moquim said an agitation would be launched if no stern action is taken against those involved in the scam.
