Koraput: Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has urged the Odisha assembly to recommend a posthumous Padma Shri for Satya Narayan Adhikari, composer and singer of ‘Chhi Re Nani’.
“The song has garnered over 3 crore views across various social media platforms in the past month, resonating globally. Adhikari, a renowned lawyer, was instrumental in promoting tribal songs of Koraput,” Jeypore MLA said, while emphasising on his immense contribution to popularising tribal music in Koraput region.
The fourth-highest civilian honour would be a fitting tribute to his legacy, he added.
The song, which captures the pain of bereavement, was also played loud during the recent ODI match between India and England at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
It was composed in 1991 and recorded in 1992. It was part of Desia song album ‘Bali Phil’. The song recently found a new life, trending across social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Facebook and was appreciated for its emotional depth and poignant lyrics.
Adhikari, an accredited artist of All India Radio, Jeypore, passed away in 2012 at the age of 57.
