Bhubaneswar: With the Centre deciding to cancel the CBSE Class XII Board examination in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, will Odisha follow suit?
Reliable sources said that barely hours after the Centre took the decision, a meeting was held among senior officials of the School and Mass Education Department and the CHSE on Tuesday evening.
The meeting discussed the methods of the alternative evaluation in case the examination is cancelled. But as the CBSE is yet to give a clear hint on it, the meeting remained inconclusive.
The sources further said there will be a meeting between the officials of the department and the CBSE on Wednesday noon followed by another meeting in the afternoon. On the basis of the decision taken at the meeting, the state government will announce the mode of evaluation this week.
It may be recalled that the School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash in his recent briefings to the media had reiterated that the state government will always adopt the methods of the CBSE.
Although there is a strong possibility of Plus II examinations in Odisha being cancelled, the alternative evaluation will be a major issue.
While the CBSE is most likely to conduct the alternative evaluation of the Class XII students on the basis of the marks secured by them in Class XI and the internal marks they have secured in Class XII, it will be difficult for the Odisha government to adopt a similar method as most Plus II colleges are yet to conduct the examination for the first-year and second-year students.
