Kathmandu: Kalpana Dash, a prominent mountaineer from Odisha, died above the balcony area on Mount Everest on Thursday afternoon.
She was a member of the ‘Three Women Expedition’ locally managed by Dreamers Destination Treks.
“Kalpana, along with Kanchhi Maya Tamang from Nepal and Liyamu Ma from China made it to the summit of Mt Everest at around 12:55 pm. She fell ill on the descent and died near the balcony area,” Director at the Department of Tourism, Acharya, quoting base camp officials, told The Himalayan Times.
A native of Dhenkanal, Kalpana had successfully climbed Mt Everest in 2008.
So far, 14 persons have died on different mountains above 8,000 m during the spring climbing season.
