Bhubaneswar: Kandhamal MP and Volleyball Federation of India president Dr Achyuta Samanta was on Thursday nominated to the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) as member of Board of Administration (BOA).
“Though I was not interested to be a member of CAVA, they have decided to nominate me because of my contribution to the field of sports,” said Dr Samanta, founder of KIIT & KISS.
CAVA, during its virtual meeting which was attended by all 14 member countries, allotted the Asian Central Women’s Volleyball Championship 2022 to India on Dr Samanta’s request. The dates will be announced later.
Expressing his happiness over this decision, Dr Samanta said he will try to organize the championship in Bhubaneswar after discussing the matter with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Odisha government officials.
Iran, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan will take part in the competition.
