Bhubaneswar: Actor-turned-politician from Odisha Anubhav Mohanty has lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime and Economic Offences police in Cuttack, alleging that some fraudsters are seeking donations by creating a fake account of his on Instagram.
“The fake account has also blocked my account so that I cannot see any nefarious activities. Some of my fans and followers have been cheated. Such fake accounts are also on Facebook too,” said the Kendrapada MP while seeking stringent action against the fraudster.
According to reports, the accused had posted a photo of a girl child claiming that she is suffering from eye cancer and sought donations for her treatment by sharing a bank account number. The fake account has some 94,000 followers.
“I request to take strict action against wrongdoers and block the account immediately so that such fake donation campaign doesn’t run longer. I also request to take some exemplary actions against them so that it’s not repeated or done by anyone else in future,” the complaint added.
Notably, Odisha has seen a rise in cases of cyber fraudsters collecting money by opening fake social media accounts using the names of some known figures.
