Bhubaneswar: Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi making two drunk youths do sit-ups for allegedly beating up their family members in Odisha’s Nilagiri has gone viral.
According to sources, the parents of the youths, who used to get into fights with them and create ruckus under the influence of alcohol, approached the MP, who then arrived at the scene and made them do sit-up. “I have been raising voice against liquor for the last 35 years. I have been working in the villages and seen families getting destroyed due to consumption of alcohol. I did not want the youths to do the same with their lives,” said Sarangi.
The MP said the youths admitted they were wrong. “Since their families requested leniency and asked us not hand them over to police, we asked them to do sit-ups and made them apologise.”
Later, they visited the house of those who were selling liquor. “As they were not present, the villagers locked their house in the presence of police,” clarified Sarangi.
