Bhubaneswar: Family members of a woman, who passes away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, have blamed COVID-19 vaccine for her death.
The deceased has been identified as Shakuntala Gochhayat (52), a Class IV contractual employee of the Nalco Hospital.
According to sources, she had received the jab on February 3 at the Nalco Hospital in Angul.
Dandadhara Gochhayat, the husband of the deceased, said she fell ill a day after taking the vaccine and could not recognise her family members. She was then admitted to the Nalco Hospital.
Shakuntala was shifted to a private nursing home in Angul town and then to another private hospital in Bhubaneswar when her condition deteriorated.
Following her death on Wednesday, her family members took the body to Nalconagar and staged a protest in front of the Casualty of Nalco Hospital, demanding compensation.
Nalco AGM Amitav Padhi said the reasons behind Shakuntala’s death will be known from the postmortem.
