Bhubaneswar: With the summer approaching, the authorities of Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) have begun preparations for the safety of inmates.
As animals in the zoo are more prone to sunstroke because of their exposure to heat, the park authorities said they are adopting natural cooling methods to keep the animals and birds safe.
Fixing coconut leaves on the 213 cages for 3,812 animals of 160 species, mixing ice cubes in drinking water of animals are some of the measures to be followed, said sources in the zoo.
Coconut water will be given to monkeys and chimpanzees while watermelon and sugarcane will be given to elephants, bears and a few other such animals. For birds, agro-net facilities will be fixed.
