Noted Neurosurgeon Ashok Mahapatra Unwell, Shifted To AIIMS New Delhi


Bhubaneswar: Eminent neurosurgeon Professor Dr Ashok Kumar Mahapatra has been shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi for advanced treatment after his health condition deteriorated on Friday.

According to information, Dr Mahapatra was admitted to SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar a few days back after he complained of severe pain in his head. He was shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi.

Sources said a specialist medical team accompanied him, while senior officials and his family members coordinated with doctors at AIIMS.

Widely recognised for leading the historic separation surgery of Odisha’s conjoined twins Jaga-Balia, Dr Mahapatra is one of the most respected names in Indian neurosurgery. He was honoured with the Padma Shri for his exceptional contribution to medicine.

He had earlier served as Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar after a long stint at the AIIMS New Delhi.

He is known for his clinical excellence as well as his association with social, cultural and spiritual initiatives.
