Balasore: A 20-year-old BSc nursing student was found dead at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Odisha’s Balasore late on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Romeo Ranjan Samal, the only son of Mrityunjay Samal, an employee of the hospital.
According to sources, Romeo was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a gammuchha (a soft cotton towel) inside the dressing room of the surgery ward at the DHH at around 1 am. He reportedly had an argument with his father and took the extreme step just before his scheduled practical in the surgery OT.
Sources further stated that though Romeo had enrolled in a private nursing college, he stayed at the DHH hostel and worked as a trainee here. It is being alleged that he died by suicide due to suspected financial strain from online gaming debts.
Balasore police have sent the body for postmortem and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
