Bhubaneswar: With the well-marked low-pressure area persisting over the Bay of Bengal, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely to lash Odisha over the next couple of days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The well-marked LoPAR persisted over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of north coastal Odisha.It is likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during next 24 hours.
Under its influence, several parts of Odisha are expected to experience intense rainfall activity till the morning of September 3. The weather agency has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts during the period.
In a special weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a red warning of heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rain over the districts of Sundaragada, and Kendujhar during the next 24 hours.
Similarly, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain over the districts of Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, and Mayurbhanj during the period.
Yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, and Nayagada districts.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
On Sept 1-2, the weather agency has issued an orange warning of orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Baragada district, while a yellow alert was issued for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Nuapada, and Balangir.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) may occur at some places over the districts of Sundaragada Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Nuapada, and Balangir during the period.
On Sept 2-3, heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Baragada, where a yellow warning was issued.
Likewise, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along & off the Odisha coast on August 31 in view of the possibility of squally weather and rough sea conditions.
