Cuttack: One person was killed while four others sustained critical injuries after the car in which they were travelling rammed a truck near Bhuinpur Chhak in Aul on Cuttack-Chandbali road in Odisha early on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Pradipta Das, sarpanch of Jayanagar gram panchayat in Rajkanika of Kendrapada district.
According to sources, the accident took place around 5 am while they were returning in the car after conducting last rite rituals of Jayanti Behera, the wife of Nirakar Behera of Rajkanika in Kendrapada district, at Swargadwar in Puri. The car was completely smashed in the accident, and the occupants were grievously injured. They were rescued by some locals, who then informed police and Fire service personnel. The injured were first admitted to Aul community health centre.
Das succumbed to injuries while being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, the sources said, adding that the other four are undergoing treatment there.
