Bhubaneswar: Ballot papers for the upcoming panchayat elections have been sent to 10 districts in Odisha.
The State Election Commission (SEC) sent the ballot papers on Monday.
The ballot papers have been sent for ward member, sarpanch and panchayat samiti member posts. Rest 20 districts in the state will receive ballot papers on January 19 and 21.
On the first day of filing nominations, as many as 8,772 sets of papers were filed on Monday.
According to a SEC release, of the total nominations filed on the day, 7,116 were for ward member posts.
While 1,122 nomination papers were filed for sarpanch posts, 512 nominations were submitted for panchayat samiti member posts.
Similarly, 22 nominations were filed for the posts of zilla parishad member in the state on the first day.
As per the SEC schedule, candidates can file their nominations from January 17 to 21, while scrutiny of papers will be done on January 22. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 25 and the final list of candidates will be declared on January 25.
The three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha will be held in five phases from February 16 to 24. Results will be declared on February 26, 27 and 28.
