Odisha Panchayat Polls: BJD Demands Recounting Of Votes In Mayurbhanj ZP Zone

Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD has demanded recounting of votes polled in panchayat elections in the Zilla Parishad zone 33 in Bisoi block of Mayurbhanj district.

A delegation of the ruling BJD submitted a memorandum to State Election Commission (SEC) in this regard on Sunday. The party alleged in the memorandum that large scale irregularities were committed by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)  including booth rigging and casting votes in the name of deceased people to ensure victory for its candidate.

Considering the irregularities during the polling that led to victory of JMM candidate, the BJD demanded the SEC to order recounting of the votes in the zilla parishad zone.

It may be noted that at the end of counting of votes polled in first phase of polling, BJD has won 25 out of 26 zilla parishad zones in the district. The lone zone number 33 has gone in favour of JMM candidate Sital Kisku who defeated BJD nominee Sobharam Shyam Murmu.
