Bhubaneswar: State Election Commissioner (SEC) Aditya Prasad Padhi is likely to announce the dates on Tuesday for the upcoming panchayat elections in Odisha.
Padhi is likely to make the announcement at a press conference at 11.30 am here. Guidelines will also be announced, which will be similar to those announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for Assembly polls in five states.
Speculation has been rife after Padhi’s meeting with Governor Ganeshi Lal at Raj Bhavan. He also met Odisha DGP S K Bansal and Home Secretary to review the law and order situation in the state.
On Monday, Padhi held an all-party meeting here to discuss holding the polls amid the prevailing COVID-19 situation in Odisha and sought their views and suggestions.
The Opposition BJP and Congress have demanded postponement of the polls because of the COVID-19 situation.
