Bhubaneswar: Leading Odisha para shuttler Deep Ranjan Bisoyee bagged two silver medals within a week in Spain as he finished men’s doubles SL3-SL4 runners-up again with Uttarakhand partner Manoj Sarkar at the Spanish Para Badminton International (BWF Level-I Tournament) in Toledo.
The Indian duo settled for the silver medal after suffering defeat in the final against Indian opponents Nehal Gupta and Naveen Sivakumar in 2-1 games. After losing the first game 20-22, Bisoyee and Sarkar fought back to take the second game 24-22. But Gupta and Sivakumar showed stronger nerves when it mattered to win the third and deciding game 21-19.
Earlier in the semifinals, Bosoyee and Sarkar beat Korean combination of Joo Dongjae and Shin Kyung Hwan 21-18, 25-23. The Odisha-Uttarakhand pair reached semifinals, finishing second in Group-A league with one win and one loss.
They lost to Gupta and Sivakumar 13-21, 21-19, 16-21 and then defeated compatriots Jagadesh Dilli and Subhrajeet Maharana 22-20, 21-12. Bisoyee and Sarkar won their first silver medal of the week at the Spanish Para-Badminton International (BWF Level-I Tournament) in Victoria, Spain earlier on April 21.
Three players from Odisha vied for honours in the Toledo international tournament. Other two were: Subhrajeet Maharana and Gadela Dillaswar Rao. However, both Maharana and Rao bowed out from the group stage of the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 event, losing both of their respective league matches.
