Bhubaneswar: Para shuttlers Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Subhrajeet Maharana did Odisha proud by bagging three medals in the Bahrain Para Badminton International 2024.
Bisoyee won a gold and bronze, while Maharana claimed silver in the tournament held in Manama from May 21 to 26.
Bisoyee, Odisha’s second-most decorated para shuttler after Paralympic and World champion Pramod Bhagat, triumphed in men’s doubles SU5- SL3-SL4 combined category with Uttarakhand’s Manoj Sarkar as his partner. Bisoyee and Sarkar defeated Maharana and Jagadesh Dilli (Tamil Nadu) 21-15, 23-21 in the final.
Maharana and Dilli fought hard in the title round before bowing in a 31-minute battle to settle for silver medal.
Bisoyee’s bronze came in mixed doubles SL3-SU5 category. He and Ukrainian partner Oksana Kozyna lost to Indonesians Fredy Setiawan and Leani Ratri Oktial 4-21, 4-21 in the semifinals.
Bisoyee now has 16 international medals, including 4 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze.
For Maharana, this was his fifth international medal, comprising 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
