Odisha: Parents Of Infant Allege Wrong Medication For Child’s Death

Nabarangpur: A six-month-old child of Nilabati Guda village under Papadahandi block died in Dabugam health care centre on Thursday allegedly due to medical negligence.

As per reports, the child was suffering from pneumonia and was rushed to the health care centre where the doctor on duty administered an injection. Soon after taking the injection the child died, alleged the infants’ parents.

The child’s parents Prasant Bisoyee and Amrita said their son developed coughing on March 30 night and they brought their child to Dabugam health care centre on March 31 after his condition deteriorated.

Prasant alleged that the doctor who attended to his son, prescribed an injection after searching it on Google on his personal mobile phone.

Grieving mother of the child

The doctor asked the nurse to administer the prescribed injection to the child, said Prasant. “Soon after administering the injection, my son closed eyes and died,” said Prasant. On learning about the child’s death, the doctor fled from the centre, alleged Prasant.

The medical officer of the health centre however rubbished the allegation. “The child was suffering from acute pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. Appropriate medicines were used,” said Subhasis Sahoo, Medical Officer at Dabugam.
