Berhampur: A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) in Odisha’s Ganjam district, who had allegedly consumed poison after a woman official accused him of sexual harassment, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in hospital.
The PEO of Chikiti, whose condition had turned critical after he allegedly consumed poison earlier this month, was undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospit
al (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur. An Additional Tehsildar had made allegation of sexual harassment against him.
However, the PEO succumbed after battling for life for 13 days at the hospital, Superintendent of MKCGMCH, Dr Durga Madhab Satpathy, said
As per sources, the PEO had consumed poison after the Additional Tahsildar lodged a complaint with the police accusing him of sexual harassment during the Sunapur Beach Mahotsav.
Based on the complaint, police had registered a case against the PEO. Further investigation into the matter was underway.
Subsequently, the PEO’s wife had lodged a complaint with the District Collector against the woman Additional Tehsildar. She had claimed that her husband was unable to cope with the allegations, which allegedly drove him to consume poison.
