Nabarangpur: Two children were killed when a pick-up van, carrying potatoes, onions and groceries, rammed into a house at Jharabahal village under Chandahandi block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Monday.
According to sources, the accident took place when the driver lost control over the vehicle while driving to a nearby market. Five members of a family- (60), Manisha Gopal (27), Sachin (10), Satikanta (9), Nandini (7) and Ashok (9) and one Damurudhar Hati, sitting around a bonfire outside the house, sustained critical injuries in the crash.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital, but two among the children succumbed to their injuries mid-way. The rest have been admitted to the Bhawanipatna hospital.
Damurudhar, a resident of Jamadarpada village, had come to Jharabahala to meet a prospective bride for his son. The accident took place when he was about to return to his village this morning, the sources added.
