Bhubaneswar: Intensifying the drive against drug smugglers, police busted a brown sugar trafficking racket and arrested six persons in two separate raids in Odisha’s Khordha district.
According to Khordha Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, the raids also led to the seizure of a total of 278 grams of brown sugar.
During a raid in the Sadar police station area, police reportedly seized 257 grams of brown sugar along with a country-made pistol, live ammunition, cash, and other incriminating materials.
In another raid in the Banapur area, 21 grams of brown sugar was seized and two persons were arrested.
While six people were arrested in connection with the two cases, one accused is absconding and efforts are on to trace him.
Acting on information about brown sugar trading near the Hanuman temple at Dalaiput under Khordha Sadar police station limits, police conducted a raid at the spot. During the operation, four suspects were detained and questioned. Further investigation is underway.
Police have seized more than one kg of brown sugar in the last one-and-half-months in the district, the SP said.
