Boudh: Two Maoists were killed early on Thursday in a gun battle with security forces in Odisha’s Boudh district.
According to police sources, the exchange of fire between Maoists and personnel of Odisha’s elite Special Operation Group (SOG) took place in Parhel reserve forest under Kantamal police limits. “Two bodies of Maoists along with explosives and other articles have been seized so far,” a senior police officer said.
They have been identified as Sunil and Santu, both members of 8th company of Maoists. Sunil originally belonged to Sukuma in while Santu was from Bijapur, both in Chhattisgarh.
Till the last report came in, the anti-Maoist operation was underway in the forest.
This assumes significance since Odisha will be simultaneously voting for both Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections from May 13 to June 1. Boudh will go to polls on May 20.
