Bhubaneswar: Odisha police on Saturday dismissed Boipariguda IIC Sushanta Satpathy, who was arrested on November 28 after Vigilance sleuths recovered a staggering Rs 37.27 lakh cash from him.
“In consonance with zero tolerance policy of the state government towards corruption, DGP has dismissed Sushanta Satpathy, Inspector of Police, from the service under Article311(2)(b) of Indian Constitution following his arrest in a corruption case,” the department posted on X.
The vigilance team had intercepted Satpathy near Tankua under Jeypore Sadar police station limits on November 27 evening while he was travelling in a private bus to his Cuttack home and recovered Rs 2.70 lakh from his possession. Subsequent searches at his office and official quarters in Boipariguda yielded Rs 1.80 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, respectively.
The tainted cop was awarded one black mark as punishment by the Jagatsinghpur SP in 2012 and placed under suspension in January 2020 by the Rayagada SP for misconduct and dereliction of duty. After working as an SI for years, he was promoted to the rank of inspector and posted in Koraput in July. He was IIC of Boipariguda police station since August.
