Rayagada: Odisha police have recently nabbed the prime accused in the alleged rape and murder of a Class IV student of Bainibas village of Muniguda in Odisha’s Rayagada from Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Harish Ram from Bihar.
According to police sources, a 10-year-old class IV student of Bainibas village went to sleep after dinner along with her family but on the morning of March 4 when her parents woke up, they found her missing from home. They looked for her everywhere in the village and surrounding areas but did not find her.
After a failed search, the girl’s father, Judhistir Kadraka, lodged a written complaint at the Muniguda police station. On March 17, children grazing goats in the forest near the village found a decomposed dead body and informed the villagers. The body was later identified by Kadraka to be that of his daughter.
As the body was decomposed, her father identified her from the frock she was wearing.
Police reached the spot and began an investigation. The scientific team collected all evidence but police could not find any injury mark as the body was in a highly decomposed state.
However, during the probe, they found Harish Ram, who worked in the water tank of the village, missing since the day of incident. A search operation was started and Harish was nabbed from Delhi.
“The accused was brought from Delhi to the village and the crime scene was recreated. He has admitted committing the crime,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer Muniguda Santoshini Oram told media.
