Bhubaneswar: The IIC of Narsinghpur police station in Cuttack, Alekh Gardia, was apprehended on Monday by Odisha Vigilance while allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from a complainant.
According to Vigilance sources, the police officer had sought illegal gratification from the complainant to arrest a person involved in a case registered under the SC/ST Act in September 2021.
A 15-member Vigilance team caught Gardia while accepting the bribe from Naba Kishore Naik. The entire bribe money was recovered from him.
Following this, simultaneous house searches are being conducted at his official quarters on the Narsinghpur police station campus and his native village at Bhandarimal in Sambalpur district.
Further investigation is underway.
