Balasore: A police officer was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a woman constable deputed for cyclone duty in Balasore district.
The accused officer, Bansidhar Pradhan, is the in-charge of Gopalpur police outpost near Khantapada in Bahanaga block.
According to sources, the victim was deputed from Balasore for Cyclone Yaas-related duty at the police outpost on May 25.
The woman later complained to the IG (Eastern Range), Diptesh Patnaik, that Pradhan had raped her at the outpost. She also lodged a complaint at Balasore Town police station.
Subsequently, the IG summoned the accused policeman for questioning. He was later arrested on the basis of the woman’s complaint.
The accused will be taken to court after a medical examination, sources said.
